Aeration and Overseeding

Aeration and overseeding are one of the most effective ways to strengthen and rejuvenate your lawn.

Aeration

Aeration is the mechanical process of removing cores of soil from your turf and depositing them on top of the lawn to break down. These holes will fill in with organic material and also give room for roots to expand. The cores of soil, thatch and grass break down on the surface and will provide organic material on top to break down thatch.

All of this will increase nutrient availability, water penetration, soil air exchange and significantly reduce the soil compaction. This improves the effectiveness of your fertilization program and ongoing watering,
leading to a healthier lawn.

We have found in practice that the lawn greens up quicker with the combination of our organic fertilization program. This is a low cost solution to repair poor quality lawns.

Overseeding

The best time to overseed is during or right after aeration. Overseeding the lawn with aeration allows the new seed to have a place for the important seed/soil contact. New seedlings will germinate quicker, take hold better, and fill in dead or bare areas. Overseeding will introduce new varieties of disease and drought resistant seed that can over time, replace older varieties for a thicker and healthier turf.

We can provide aeration and overseeding in the Spring or Fall and recommend once per season. For poor or damaged lawns both a Spring and Fall aeration is recommended.
